Tying Oscar Night into your Own Business
Hollywood is big business, and this year's Oscar Nominations include the following for Best Actress:

Cate Blanchett, "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"
Julie Christie, "Away From Her"
Marion Cotillard, "La Vie en Rose"
Laura Linney, "The Savages"
Ellen Page, "Juno"

oscar.jpgThe writer's strike and the upcoming Screen Actors Guild negotiations call attention to an industry that is rapidly changing because of the internet. If you've ever downloaded a movie off iTunes, or watched a "webisode" from the network website, or even watched a trailer on YouTube or Apple, you're participating in an information sea change that is impacting the film and television industry.

For women, particularly women of color, the internet opens up great opportunities. Have you filmed an "advertorial" of your own products and services? The actresses have done so, and some of their offerings include websites and trailers where you may post and view work, like trailers and videos from fantastic talents like Kelly Hu, star of X2 and the upcoming "The Tournament," and Gina Torres, from Firefly and the Matrix series. If you're a director or an aspiring filmmaker, the barrier to entry is coming down, so you may shoot and edit your own film and compete with the right amount of marketing savvy and enthusiasm. If you're a business owner, a brief video for you to play on your website or to display as part of your marketing pitch makes a big difference.

For all of us as women in business, we want to always find new ways to market, support, and publicize our products and services. For example, Oscar Night is February 24th: is there a way to tie in promotion of the event to your own business? Perhaps you may offer an "Entertainment Special" or a special product related to the Oscars. (PS: The Oscars happen every year: you might see a lucrative opportunity here!)

Think of five tie-ins to increase your business through entertainment, show business, internet, movies, video, or audio recordings.

I support for Marion Cotillard. "La Vie en Rose" is really a magical and vivacious entertainment. That 'La Môme' AKA 'La Vie En Rose' is a triumph for actress Marion Cotillard who manages to inhabit the persona of Edith Piaf is a given. I really appreciate Marion's talent: http://dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=80740&ru=279

I'm a huge Kelly Hu fan, and I loved "Firefly" and "Serenity." ("Serenity" is a movie I'd drop anything to watch, any time.) So I'm interested in seeing that they're doing with the... did you call them advertorials? Where can those things be found?
