This international nonprofit organization is called Girls Helping Girls, and their mission is to partner girls in the United States with girls in schools and community organizations in developing countries to jointly identify problems in their communities and develop social change through micro lending projects to address those issues. Current countries include India, Ghana, and Turkey, with more project sites on the way.
The core program component of Girls Helping Girls is the "Sister Group pair," each team of which is managed by an adult leader. Girls are able to directly communicate with the girls of their sister group through pen-pal letter correspondence, emails, and password-protected internet message-boards.
The stated mission of the organization is "to build a global culture of girls consciously collaborating to make a difference." The girls work on service projects in four main areas: Eradicate Poverty, Increase Access to Education, Improve Health, and – most importantly to them – Promote Peace.
