My family: My mother who has taught me by example to be open minded and flexible. My husband who supportive of all my choices and is a true friend and partner-always thinking outside the box. Being a mother for the first time very closely followed by getting my Ph.D.
Brief Biographical Sketch
N. Nina Ahmad, Ph.D., President of PrymeJenomix, LLC, is an experienced molecular biologist who has been working in the field of molecular genetics for over a decade. After receiving her Doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania, she trained with noted collagen expert, Darwin Prockop, M.D., Ph.D. at Thomas Jefferson University, where she was the lead author of the article documenting the first direct evidence of collagen type II gene mutation in the Stickler syndrome (joint-eye disease), which expanded the field providing a starting point for molecular genetic research into the generalized disease of osteoarthritis.
Dr. Ahmad is one of the patent holders of "Methods of detecting a Genetic Predisposition for Osteoarthritis". Her tenure at Wills Eye Hospital was characterized by establishing research protocols to investigate the molecular genetics of inherited eye diseases with focus on tumor suppressor genes such as retinoblastoma, resulting in numerous papers and presentation at International and National meetings.
Dr. Ahmad served on the Institutional Review Board at Wills Eye Hospital, which is responsible for scientific integrity of research projects and the safety of human subjects. She is a member of Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and Association of Women in Science (AWIS).
A native of Bangladesh, Dr. Ahmad is active in the Asian American community of Philadelphia and the tristate area, where she has focused her energies in politically empowering a group frequently referred to as "the invisible minority." Dr. Ahmad sounds like a great individual. Maybe you could introduce her to our Bangladeshi blogger, Razib Ahmed. What a life experience she has had!
