Part of my joy in life is using my organizing skills to bring people together, specifically women and more directly, women of color.
I think that within any circle where people are gathered with a specific intent, the right resources, the right people, and the right "energy" will be generated to assist the people within that circle. That said, I also think that everyone needs facilitators, guides, mentors, or someone who's moved closer in the direction the group wants to go
For example, tennis players usually play with someone better than them: that's how they can improve!
For a women's retreat I'm organizing, we plan to focus on goalsetting and the importance of working within a framework of accountability.
I've learned that people are more likely to achieve a goal if they write it down and check in with an advisor or group on a regular basis with their progress towards their goals; otherwise, it's easy to let things slip.
The SparkPLUG Network Women's Retreat www.sparkplugnetwork.com is my first attempt at bringing together an effective circle of professional and executive women to focus on issues that we all deal with: home, relationships, finances, health, work, and spirituality/reason for being.
It's a few hours on a Saturday morning to focus. We'll have Shauna Handrahan of Life Architects to facilitate, and the retreat itself is a safe space to call attention to our goals, explore some of these issues, and provide a mutually beneficial environment. We'll also have pampering (massages and chocolates and hot tub!), so those of you in the Bay Area, sign up for an upcoming retreat! www.sparkplugnetwork.com
If you're in another area and this ideas sounds good to you, e-mail me and we can help you organize a retreat in your area!
