Every week for the past few years, I've been receiving a little e-mail called
"Thought of the Week" in my Inbox. The messages come from Nipun Mehta, a former Sun Microsystems employee who now volunteers through
CharityFocus, a nonprofit he founded with a handful of Silicon Valley friends.

Unlike other subscriptions, I've never wanted to unsubscribe from "Thought of the Week" because I get to hear from thinkers like Thich Nhat Han, Toni Morrison, and Marianne Williamson. Here are the archives:

At the end of the message is a standing invitation to join the group at a meditation and silent dinner, promising "
We don't propose any agendas nor do we pursue particular results." The evening is simply to meditate and discuss the thought of the week.
Nipun and his new wife Guri have recently returned from a walking pilgrimage of India. where they lived off a dollar a day, slept wherever they could find shelter, and chronicled their experiences online.

I am inspired and humbled by the example of these two and of CharityFocus, which allows people to use their skills to create a better world, one person at a time.
All of us in business have many skills and talents to offer: I encourage you to check out CharityFocus or find and volunteer for an issue that you care about, so you may use your abilities to improve our world.
