International Women's Day is a UN holiday and is celebrated on March 8 (mark your calendars). It's billed as "an international celebration of education and empowerment" and was first held in March 1911 in Germany, Austria, and Denmark.
I am a firm believer in setting goals for the 20-year, 10-year, 5-year, 1-year, monthly, weekly, and daily level, and for women of color in the next 5 years, we should expect and demand to have at 150% more leadership roles, 150% more purchasing power, 150% more of us in ownership or management positions, and 150% more personal net worth. This will not happen until we begin to share our knowledge, expand our networks, and support others in our communities by purchasing, supplying, helping, or donating to each other's endeavors.
For example: do you
1) shop at a woman-of-color-owned business for your daily needs?
2) support a woman-of-color-owned business for your monthly or annual needs (web hosting at 10khosting.com)
3) donate to a woman-of-color-run organization or nonprofit?
4) vote for and support women of color in politics? in business? in education?
We have the power to be educated about our existing system and start making conscious choices about what reality we want to develop.
Keep me posted with what changes you're starting to make!
